Last Days of summer pt 2
When your life flashes before your eyes, make sure you've got plenty to watch. ~Author unknown
August 24th, 4am came fast! This is the time that mom and I left Provost; we had made coffee and grabbed snacks so we wouldn’t have to stop. We arrived in Lethbridge shortly after 8am, did a quick stop at my house to unload a few things than we headed off towards the Crowsnest Pass. We did a brief stop at Franks Slide, since I had never been there before (or at least remember being there) so it was nice that since we weren’t in a hurry we could do these small things.
We also stopped at the World’s Largest Truck in Sparwood and got our picture taken there. From there we continued towards Creston, where we took the ferry across Kootney Lake towards Nakusp.
We finally arrived in Nakusp around 6pm; here I was able to see my friend Cassandra. I hadn’t seen her in almost 6 years! I was so happy that she and her boys were able to make it down from Creston to visit for a few days. I also got to meet her little boys Raiden and Sylas. It’s hard to believe that we’re t the age of having children, especially since throughout our visit we were reminiscing about the things we did as kids. Cassandra and I were also surprised with a birthday cake from our moms. Although my birthday had passed and Cassandra’s wasn’t until Oct our moms decided to have a belted/early birthday cake for us. It was amazing, we had such a good visit, and we were able to walk along the lake front and checked out a few of the local stores. I can’t wait do to it again.
We've been friends for over 20 years!
Friday Aug 26th, we said our goodbyes before heading back on the road. Mom and I took yet another ferry across Kootney lake; the Needles Ferry in order to continue our journey to the Okanagan. We arrived in Vernon around noon and stopped to get a quick bite to eat before continuing on our way. We also stopped in Kelowna at the Orchard park mall so that I could check out Chapters. We had made such good time that having a break was nice. From there we also stopped in Peachland to see Jen (my brother Mikes Fiancée), we made plans to meet up for breakfast on Sunday.

Hanging out in Summerland
My time in Penticton went by too fast; I was able to spend time with most of my friends. Saturday night many of us went out to play mini golf and also rented a bike to bike around lakeshore. Sarah and I also played the Friends game that I found at Value Village, which was harder than I expected it to be. Ironman 2011 was taking place on the Sunday when we headed to Denny’s to meet Jen and her mom Wolly for breakfast. Afterwards mom came with me and we did some shopping, I was able to find a few more outfits for school. Sarah, Fitz and I took Jayden to Summerland to Peach Orchard Beach to the waterpark. For dinner we had pizza and after that we decided to stay in and watch a movie.
Monday morning Sarah and I made eggs Benedict (my new favourite addiction), I than loaded the van and headed to pick up my mom and grandma. Grandma needed to do some errands down town then treated us to ice caps before mom and I headed off to Princeton. When we arrived and Uncle Les and Aunt Sandy’s as usual it was so peaceful. I love that there is no internet and no cell phone service because you are able to relax. Uncle Les made is famous BBQ steaks for dinner while Aunt Sandy made potato salad and corn on the cob. It was an amazing dinner and for desert we had deep dish apple pie! Uncle Jim was also there for dinner. Tuesday was spent relaxing; I did find some recipes that Aunt Sandy had so I spent some time copying them out. It was nice to be able to sit and relax as I did. When Uncle Les got home from work mom and I went with him into town for a few groceries needed for dinner, because we were having Beer Butt Chicken on the BBQ. After picking up the groceries we went to the legion to have a drink with Bill (Aunt Sandy’s dad). When we got home Aunt Sandy had made banana pecan nut loaf for desert. We all enjoyed a few glasses of wine (Uncle had his beer) while we waited for dinner to cook. In the end dinner and desert was amazing, we had lots of good laughs that night. I never want to leave whenever I am at Uncle Les and Aunt Sandy’s, as I always have good time when I am there.
The '41! My favorite truck ever!!
Unfortunately though the next morning mom and I did head back to Penticton, but not before checking out Uncle Jim’s new house; which looked amazing. When we got back to Penticton we did some shopping, and then mom dropped me at Walmart and I had lunch with Sarah before both of us heading back to Dianne and Grandmas. Mom and I stayed with Grandma for dinner (which was amazing) while Dianne was at work. She missed out on a good dinner. Afterwards we took Grandma to Walmart and then went in search of a fruit stand, but at 730pm there aren’t any fruit stands open in the area. Mom then dropped me off at Sarah’s, I said goodbye to Grandma because I knew that she wouldn’t be up when mom and I decided to head out in the morning. Sarah and I enjoyed visiting and watching a few episodes of Friends before calling it a night.
Once again time flies too fast, 12 days isn’t long enough to visit and relax anywhere especially when you aren’t staying in one place. Mom and I left early Thursday morning making our way back to Calgary. We stayed in Calgary for a few days before I headed home. Although my trip went by too fast I had a blast, in fact this whole summer has been amazing and I couldnt've asked for a better one.
Life happens too fast for you ever to think about it. If you could just persuade people of this, but they insist on amassing information. ~Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.
I apologize for the odd format of this blog- something funky happened:(
